Romans

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
Romans 1:16-17 (NKJV)

Do you have a favorite book of the Bible? Is there one that just "jumps out" at you?

If you could ask "the Church" this questions, the answer would probably be the epistle to the Romans. At many critical junctions in the life of the church, the book of Romans has had substantial influence upon the church leader involved in God's plan.

Romans is unique amongst Paul's letters for it is the closet thing to a full statement of all of the doctrines that we possess at the hand of any apostle. Although Paul did not start out to write a textbook, because of the issues within the Roman Church, the Apostle covers the majority of all Christian doctrines.

Join us as we spend a year walking through this letter, attempting to unearth its treasures. Take your doctrinal understanding to a deeper level.

There are no requirements for your taking this course, other than a love for God. A certificate for the Bible Institute's main program is NOT required. Anyone may join us.

A Note about textbooks for this course.

As with all of the Bible Institute courses, the main textbook is God's Word, the Bible. Preferaably you will have either hardcopy or Internet access to two or three translations. In addition, I will ask you to purchase and read at least one commentary on Romans. I have posted a list of commentaries, at least one of which you must read.  Depending upon your choice, I may strongly recommend that you read two of the list. See the further notes on the Romans commentaries listing page.

My favorite book? Well, actually my favorite book is the Gospel of John, but the book that I study is this one, the Epistle to the Romans. If I were limited to just one book, it would be Romans because it is all here. All of the important doctrines and many of the hard issues are discussed in the context of God's eternal plan. I have, over the past six years, read over a hundred commentaries on this work in an effort to build my level of spiritual maturity and to seek a deeper look at how others within the Christian community attack and interpret this work. Come and join me in this adventure of discovering the book of Romans!
